That Man of Mine!!!
My husband…I have not always been at a place where I praise my husband the way I should. Not that he has not always been praise worthy; it is more about my shortcomings. This is me unsettled again!
Matt is a man who loves completely, even when it isn’t easy. He told me early in our marriage that he listened to people like James Dobson and Adrian Rogers when they offered marital advice even before he met me. He wanted to be the type of husband that Ephesians 5:25 talks about. “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loves the church and gave himself for it.” I’m getting teary as I write this, because he truly loves me this way. This may come as a shock to many of you (insert eye roll), but I am not always lovable. I can be moody, cranky, hormonal (another post on that later!) and downright mean. Yet he loves me anyways. He is patient with me. He rarely gets short with me. He picks up my house on his lunch break, so that I come home to a tidy house. He KNOWS me, the good and the bad, and he loves me consistently.
The image above is an example of his acts of love. Now, I do not weigh myself obsessively, especially now that I have grasped the fact that my health is not wholly reflected by what they scale tells me. But he left me this note to let me know that he loves me just the way I am. He does not claim the creative genius behind this gesture, because he read it in a marital book, but WHO CARES! The fact that he took the time to read a book about loving his wife and put the effort into writing the note are enough for me!
So today, I wanted you all to know how thankful I am for him. Matt is the man God created for ME! If my mother prayed for a husband for me, this is the man she was praying for. I do not always love him the way I should, but God is moving in my heart to change this. I am praying for God to change me to reflect the wife Proverbs 31 speaks about:
“An excellent wife who can find?
She is far more precious than jewels.
The heart of her husband trusts in her,
and he will have no lack of gain.”
Proverbs 31:10-11
