THIS IS SO IMPORTANT MAMAS!
I know money is tight.
I know the littles are little.
I know the laundry is overflowing out the back door.
But THIS is important!
Matt and I were married a WEEK before Christmas. December 18th. It was wonderful! We honeymooned for one night at the Peabody in Memphis and then waited until New Year’s Day to take our REAL honeymoon in Key West. So much stinking fun and family to be had!
But a Christmas wedding always meant we were too busy or too broke from Christmas presents to get away. And add two kids to the mix and we were STUCK with no dinners or dates or get aways of any kind!
A counselor’s and a teacher’s salary does not a fortune make…
Which is totally fine, but it IS fun to get away together.
FFWD five years and here we find ourselves NOT broke. Loving our careers as CEO and Coach and we were EXCITED to get away!
Snowbird Mountain Lodge
A couple of friends told us about Snowbird. It’s located right outside of Robbinsville, NC. It was a quick (without kids everything is quick…) six hour drive. And the scenery was beautiful!
We arrived to a welcome of signature cocktails, cookies and horderves and the promise that we would RELAX and forget any agenda and just enjoy our selves!
There was a bottle of champagne, local chocolates and fresh flowers in our precious room. We had a mountain view, and it was worth it for every hour of our stay! Even when we woke to rain on the last day! The weather was cool, and we slept with the windows open every night and woke to the beautiful “smoke” of the Smoky Mountains.
It was really the small details that mattered most. Like an enormous blanket stowed anywhere you could find to sit. A bookshelf CRAMMED with every book you would want to read. A fire in the fireplace at all times, and fresh coffee and fruit infused water all day!
Our breakfast, lunches, and dinners were all included in the cost of the stay. It was pricey for us, but well worth all that we got! On the property, there were trails, bikes, a tennis court, multiple fire pits and a easy access to a lake and kayaks and canoes. Matt was even able to fly fish with the equipment on the property!
At dinner each night, we spoke to the most precious couples. It was truly a community atmosphere, and I will go back! #nokidsallowed
Early Mornings
My favorite part of each day was my early morning time. It was so still. So quiet. So peaceful. I don’t know about you, but I feel CLOSEST to God in nature. No doubt, that’s the way it should be.
I retreated to the porch with a fire in the fire pit and a warm fuzzy blanket and just soaked up His goodness. How GREAT He is! How AWESOME! If that was the ONLY thing I took away from this weekend, it would have been enough!
It may not be the Snowbird, but I hope you will make getaways with your honey a priority! Even if it’s just a night at the local Marriott! It’s time you won’t get back in later years, and your family will be stronger for it!
