My Journey Through PMDD

I wrote about my PMDD struggles EARLY in my health and fitness journey.

But with one thing and another – different discoveries, progress, and all the questions I’ve received lately, it felt like time for a refreshed share with you beautiful people!

I feel like I’ve learned a LOT in the past two years, and it’s my privilege to share that with you…

I am just a regular ole wife and mom who is finding FREEDOM in my hormones, and want to share that with you!

I believe our struggles are never without purpose.

At my worst, PMDD was destroying my most precious relationships – my marriage; my influence on my children; even my job at times!

Today, it’s something I manage with food, fitness, and lots of prayer.

The #1 question I get is “Rachel, what did you do?”

It’s simple.. too simple. So simple that many don’t want to do it.

I changed what I eat.

It took time. It took consistency. It took breaking strongholds, but I’m here to tell you that if I can do it, you can too.

Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.

Genesis 1:11-12

The two are directly connected.

When we eat what He made, our bodies function at their best.

We believe that for our hearts, our blood pressure and our cholesterol… why wouldn’t we believe it for our hormones?

Foods I Stay Away From

• Sugar
• Artificial Sugar
• Alcohol
• Man-Made oils (vegetable oil, canola oil, corn oil)
• Processed foods

Foods I Eat in Abundance

• Green leafy vegetables
• Healthy Fats (avocado, coconut milk, coconut oil, olives, olive oil, almond butter)
• Lean protein
• Fresh berries
• Sweet potatoes

A Typical Day of Eating

Breakfast – 2 eggs cooked in ghee, spinach, berries, sugar-free bacon, bullet-proof coffee

Lunch – grilled chicken, large green salad with veggies, avocado, avocado-oil based ranch, kraut, flaxseed crackers

Snack – vegan shakeology

Dinner – proscuitto wrapped chicken, steamed kale, baked sweet potato, green olives, kraut

With that, I encourage you to do your own research and test this out for yourself! You won’t see results in one month or even two. It takes TIME to rid your body of the foods that don’t serve it and create new cravings for the GOOD FOOD God made to fuel you well!

I will say that life is too short to live in a vicious cycle of tired, cranky, angry, and ineffective in the callings God gave me! Don’t lose heart! Lay it down before the Lord, and ASK HIM FOR HELP! Nothing changed for me until I did!
