In my challenge groups and in general, I get asked a lot about what I eat on a regular basis. So, I decided to share some of my favorite items I buy at the grocery store and tell you why they work for me!
Snacks seem to be a big thing people have trouble getting ideas for. For busy people, and let’s face it, we all pretty much are, snacking is not a daily occurrence. But it is SO important to keep your metabolism going! I eat at least 5 times each day. Once in between breakfast and lunch and once in between lunch and dinner. Sometimes after dinner too…depending on how hungry I am.

Yogurt is a pretty standard snack for me, which sounds simple right? Well, finding one that is not pumped full of sugar or aspartame and still has a good serving of protein is NOT so simple. I finally found that I like that meets my criteria! Chobani Greek Yogurt Simply 100 is the one! It tasted good and has enough protein to fill me up.

Another standard go-to for me is a wrap. I eat a lot of wraps for lunch. I fill them with anything and everything. Chicken, tuna, fresh veggies, cheese, hummus, shrimp…you get the idea. But I am very picky about my wraps. I want them to be whole grain and also not have a TON of carbs. I like them to be soft too…which may be odd, but I cannot stand a tough chewy wrap!!! So, I buy the Extreme Wellness brand, which I can only find at Kroger.
These are full of protein and low in carbs. They also have a lot of fiber, which works for me. AND they are extremely soft…like the ones at Sonic. Yes, I used to love a Sonic breakfast wrap and may have eaten one as of late…
Moving on. Veggie burgers go in my wraps quite frequently. They are simple and fast. And really very flavorful. I buy the Morning Star brand, specifically Grillers Prime. The other ones with beans in them are tasty but have a lot of carbs. The Grillers Original or Grillers Prime have very little carbs and a LOT of protein. They really taste like a burger too! Matt loves them.
And lastly, I use almond milk DAILY to mix my Shakeology. This doesn’t sound exciting, but this simple ingredient makes my shakes extremely smooth and yummy! This is my sweet treat most days, and sometimes I drink one at night when I’m craving chocolate, so it’s important to get this right!
I purchase Unsweetened Vanilla Almond milk. The unsweetened part is important, because if it is the regular kind, it is FULL of sugar. I buy a 3 pack at Sam’s once/week. Matt uses this for his oatmeal and cereal too. It is also a great substitute for creamer if you’ve been trying to ditch that.
And finally, my 5 minute wonder dinner foods!!! I can pop both of the in my microwave for 5 minutes and Voila! I have a nutritious dinner when I pair it with my proteins!!! The microwave is my best friend when I’m back at work!
So! Those are my standard go-tos that we always have on hand. I hope this helps someone. This is completely second nature to our family now, and I am so grateful to have made this change for all of us!
