I Started To Crave God’s Word
I have been a follower of Christ since I was 24. You can read my story of salvation here.
But for years, I was HUNGRY to dive into God’s word more and also INTIMIDATED!
Growing up for so long in the church and reading the Bible, but not receiving it, I always approached God’s word with a fear of not understanding it. And so I didn’t dive in deep…which looking back now sounds really really dumb. Because how was I going to understand it and receive it if I wasn’t reading it….
What changed? I got tired of making excuses, and I started to BELIEVE that what God’s word says is true.
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness”
2 Timothy 3:16
- And so I began to pray and ASK for understanding.
- ASK for a desire to read the Word daily.
- I stopped relying on devotions for spiritual food and went straight to the ONLY source!
And I speak to many of you daily who want to learn how to hunger and understand just like I did so long ago.
- Ask for it! Pray to God for a hunger. For understanding. He promises that anything we ask in His name He will do (John 14:13), and I promise you, He wants you the Word.
- Read THE WORD! I started a bible reading plan in 2018 and committed to making that my priority before anything else. Before I opened Facebook, before I opened a devotion book, before I opened my She Works His Way app. Get in the Word and you’re in DIRECT communication with your Creator!
- Find some resources that help you understand! I have recently discovered a podcast called The Bible Recap. It helps break down the text I’m reading and gives context pertaining to the times the book was written and helps me understand the author’s message more.
But seriously! Don’t take my word for it! Start NOW! Not January 1st. Not when you “have” the time. But NOW! You won’t regret it!
“Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.”
Psalm 119:18
