Making Exercise Fit Into Your Day
What is the most common excuse for not working out?? You guessed it: “I don’t have enough time!“
I know we are all busy, especially this time of year, but is that statement really true? I know when I wasn’t working out, I had plenty of time to watch my favorite tv shows, social networking and some other pretty fruitless tasks. But honestly, like a lot of other people, I think I was just afraid. Afraid of failing.
But the bigger question we should be afraid of is: “What will happen if you don’t work out?“
How will that affect your life in five or even ten years from now? We all know that exercise is proven to increase our energy, improve our overall health and prolong our life, so why don’t we do it???? It all starts with a decision – a decision to improve your life. If you want to work out, you will MAKE the time.
So, what are some things you can do to make a workout fit into your day with a little less struggle?
- Schedule it – Put in on your calendar. Make it a priority like a meeting with your boss that you absolutely would not miss. Honestly, once you get in the swing of things and make it a regular occurrence, your body will CRAVE it!
- Limit Screen Time – all those minutes or hours you spend surfing the web, reading social media or watching shows could be easily converted into cardio time! Step outside, take a walk, pop in a workout video. You will gain so much more from 30 minutes spent dedicated to improving your health!
- Make it a Date – Schedule a workout with your spouse, a good friend, or one of your kids. Not only is that time spent investing in yourself, but it will also be an investment in an important relationship in your life. You’re also setting a positive example for those around you. Especially your children. The more they see you moving, the more likely they are to get off the couch and turn off the video games. Talk about a Win/Win!
- Be Yourself – You may not exercise because you haven’t found the workout that fits your personality. You don’t have to be a runner, because your best friend is. Some people cannot leave their home, because of small children but think they have to have a gym membership to be healthy. You may love Pilates or something low-impact more than cardio, and that’s ok. SO long as you are moving and burning calories, your body will thank you. Do your research. Find out what your options are. If you need help, I would love to help you.
- Rise & Shine – Getting your workout done first thing in the morning will ensure that you fit it in. You know it’s done, and you will have an awesome sense of accomplishment the rest of the day. Not only that, your energy level will receive an awesome boost by increasing the secretion of neurotransmitters. Which makes you think more clearly, which makes you SHARPER! Who can’t use a little more clarity throughout the day!!
So, get it out there and make it happen! Make some time for YOU! You’ll be so glad you did!
