His Works Are Wonderful!!!
I have been writing a lot lately about my new health journey. I have always enjoyed running, loved healthy food, and tried to pay attention to my weight. However, this is different. This is new. I have been reading Lysa Teurkerst’s Made To Crave this summer, and her words have really touched me. She mentioned praying a prayer that simply asked God to unsettle her. This struck me and reminded me of one of my favorite bible verses. It is from Psalm 139 and says, “Search me , God, and know my heart; test me and know my concerns. See if there is any offensive way in me; lead me in the everlasting way.”
While there are multiple things God has revealed to me that I need to change, the way I treat this body He has blessed me with is one I have chosen to share about here. In this same chapter, the author talks about the fact that His “works are wonderful” vs. 14. God created me with a purpose, and this body is the vessel through which I am to accomplish this purpose. I have become very aware of what I put in it and how strong it is…or isn’t.
My focus on fitness is not motivated simply by my desire to lose weight or to look great in a pair of blue jeans (both of which are fine with me!) but more on using this “temple” to most effectively serve my God! I want to be an example to help other women who struggle with staying healthy. I want to be an example to my children. Obesity runs rampant in our generation, and I want them to view their bodies as a gift from God as well.
So, consider me unsettled! Thank you God!
