With the holidays over, it seems like we have gotten a nice little break. But it never lasts very long. We have had homework, conferences, projects, appointments…you name it! We stay on the go. There are tons of wonderful things to be thankful for, but let’s face it. If you are woman – I don’t care if you’re a mom or not – you are busy! Most of us have this built in switch that automatically says, “Yes” when asked to do something.
No matter how much time or energy we have, we almost always commit to things we know we don’t have time for…Gosh, that’s a whole other post!
Lysa Terkeurst even wrote a whole book about it!!
And I am all for helping other people out!
Serving others and giving back.
Creating experiences and memories for our children.
But in the midst of it all, we lose sight of ourselves.
I struggle with this a lot. If you’re a mom, I am sure you do too.
It seems selfish to focus on ME.
To take time for making sure I have what I need to keep going.
To actually spend money on ME!!!!
But can I share a little secret I have learned over the last 18 months?????
And I don’t mean because the world tells you so. I mean you are worth it, because God says you are! You are His workmanship.
Think about something you accomplished or created that you were proud of. It could be a degree you earned, birthday cake, a piece of furniture, a really tasty meal, a business deal you worked extra long hours on. You put a lot of time and effort into it because to you, it was worth it, right?
God sees you that way.
He created you.
Loves you.
And has your best interest at heart!
And one area that we tend to neglect or think this does not apply to is our health. Our fitness. Not just the size of our bluejeans but our whole self. Inside and out. But, truly? We cannot be who God created us to be if we are not whole.
And while I do focus a lot on the physical aspect of fitness, I am fully aware that it goes hand in hand with the spiritual aspect as well.
I first began to read Lysa Terkeurst’s Made to Crave when I started the 21 Day Fix in May of 2014. And I quickly realized that my spiritual health needed rehabbing just as much as I needed to drop some weight. I needed to get real and dig deep and find out WHY I was struggling with over eating. WHY I did not have the self-worth and self-respect to take care of myself on a consistent basis. WHY a lot of times, I chose food, tv, shopping, etc over time with God. (Some of you are probably thinking this seems deep for a post about fitness, but stick with me…)
You see, I realized it is all connected! My spiritual health directly impacts my physical health. My physical health has an enormous impact on my mental health. And all that combined impacts the role I play in this crazy thing called Life! Like the verse above says, God didn’t just create us. He created us “to do good works.”
I cannot fulfill the role of wife, mom, teacher, coach, friend…the list goes on, if I am not healthy. Body and Soul!

So my focus for the month of February is, of course, Love. But I want to challenge you to ask yourself, Are you taking care of you? Not in a selfish manner, but because You are Worth It?
Myself and a group of amazing women will challenge ourselves to:
- 30 minute workouts
- Meal planning and prepping for success in our food choices
- Portion control
- Encouraging one another in scripture and with our words
- Learning to balance this crazy life and STILL take care of our needs
- Making our health a priority so that we can run this race well!
